Helicopters can experience a phenomenon called brownout when flying close to a dusty surface the uplifting of dust in the air can remarkably restrict the pilot’s visibility area. We show how realistic simulations of brownout need billions of grain particles. Tracking each grain as an independent trajectory through a precomputed airflow allows the work to be spread across multiple GPUs showed to be effective in reducing the simulation time substantially.
